DESCRIPTION:
It was on this day in 1878 that the little peninsula country, renowned worldwide for its news channel Al Jazeera (Th Peninsula in Arabic), that Sheikh Muhammad Bin Thani, who would vanquish the Ottomans from his land, succeeded his father Sheik Jassem to the thrown and founded the state of Qatar. The nation would later fall under the British empire until it gained its independence September 3, 1971.
National Day in Qatar is a national holiday.
